Friday Shane, dob 1.5.2011
He wasn’t bred to race, he was bred to fly. His Mum’s big brother won 20 Opens and once held the track record at Monmore. That made her too risky to race. Her husbands include Hondo Black, Droopys Scolari and Westmead Hawk. Serious stud fees. God knows what he must have cost. A Derby possible at one time, his behaviour earned him a mention in the Racing Post. He took out 4 dogs in one race alone, and finished the career prospects of a few others. Mere love taps compared to his final outing when he tried to put the winner over the rails into the car park. Rival trainers had a word. We used to watch the video in disbelief. Eventually it was removed from YouTube as it was traumatising to rock’ard old dog men.
“I’ve seen friendlier pitbulls”, “an absolute piece of filth”, “retire the thing before it kills a dog”, ” a live bomb”, “dont’t send this screw to the flaps”…….and they were from the more diplomatic folk.
Shane went back to Ireland for re-schooling, under a blanket, which merely put a shine on his attitude and then he materialised here a few months later. The racing industry was very grateful. Oddly enough Shane has never put a foot wrong since but Tia couldn’t afford the risk. His hobbies are sunbathing in the paddock and settling in the new girls to whom he is an absolute gentlemen.
A beautiful talented psychopath and a huge favourite with everyone.
